Senate Votes to Reopen Government After Passing Bill to End Shutdown

Senate Votes to Reopen Government After Passing Bill to End Shutdown The bill received the necessary 60 votes on Monday with the help of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The deal would allow for the government to re-open until Feb. 8. Immigration and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program were two of the most contentious topics for Republicans and Democrats. The shutdown lasted three days, with many of the shutdown's full effects less visible during the weekend, when much of the federal workforce would typically be off anyway. The bill now heads back to the house and after that, it will land on President Trump's desk for approval.
